Support and Encouragement During Changing Times

The following ideas are suggestions of positive ways in which to make good use of your time while seeking employment and trying to work through difficult times.

  • Attend pre-employment workshops provided by Iowa at Work. For a complete listing of the workshop schedule call 1-800-642-4032, and dial 0 for the operator.
  • Learn a new language! Rosetta Stone, a computer based English and Spanish language learner program, is offered daily at the Henry County Extension Office, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Contact the New Iowans Center at 931-5585 to register and sign up for an orientation class.
  • Take the opportunity to volunteer your time! It is a great way to network and meet others in the community.
  • Seek information about starting your own business. Call Janine Clover, Small Business Develoment Center, 319-208-5381 or Judy Marshall, Director of Entrepreneurial Support, 319-385-3101 to get started!
  • Get familiar with what the public library has to offer and do some reading.
  • Start and keep a daily journal.
  • Spend more time reading, watching, and listening to the news.
  • Refresh an old hobby or start a new one!
  • Create a list of your own!
