Mt. Pleasant currently has 2.3 miles of recreation trails. The trail begins at East Lake Park and extends west and north along a combination of trail and city streets to the downtown area. This allows persons to travel from any area in the city of Mt. Pleasant to East Lake Park.
Most of the trail is level to gently sloping and is hard surfaced for use by pedestrians, bicycles, roller blades, and other non-motorized transport. These trails allow for substantial opportunities to view deer, turkey, pheasants, rabbits and many other wildlife species. In addition, many species of native plants grow along the trail.
Outside the City limits, a crushed rock trail links Iowa Avenue to Oakland Mills Road. Long term planning includes trail segments in other areas on the perimeter of the City, as well as plans to connect County Parks and Geode State Park.
