If you (or your child provider) live in a home built before 1960, your child is at risk for lead poisoning caused by lead-based paint. About 60% of the homes in Iowa, both rural and urban areas, were built before 1960.

Lead poisoning is the single most preventable childhood disease. Testing of children routinely begins at age one. All Iowa children under the age of 6 years should be tested for lead poisoning.

For more information about the prevention of lead poisoning or to inquire into blood lead testing, call 319-385-6724.

Blood lead testing is available at Henry County Public Health and WIC clinic.
