Physical Activity
Health Information
Get up and get moving! Being physically active every day can add up
to a lifetime of health benefits.
Adding 30 minutes of physical activity a day to your schedule can:
- Reduce your chance of having a stroke or heart attack.
- Lower your risk of type-II diabetes.
- Strengthen your bones and keep your joints healthy.
- Bolster your immune system to help protect you from illness.
- Burn body fat and help you maintain a healthy weight.
- Improve your balance and coordination.
Some ideas to help you get started:
- Choose an activity you enjoy. You are more likely to stay with it if it is fun.
- Join forces with a friend or family member. Exercising together will be more fun and you
will both become healthier.
- Set goals. Give yourself something to work toward. Set goals that are achievable but stretch you.
- Start smart. If you have not been exercising regularly, work your way into it gradually.
- Incorporate activity into your everyday routine. Park farther from the door. Take the stairs. Walk
instead of drive.
- Add it up. You don't have to get 30 minutes of exercise all at once. Breaking your activity into 10
or 15 minute segments throughout the day still adds up to great health benefits!
By adding physical activity to your life every day
you will feel better and be healthier!
