Why are we focusing on active living?
The number of Iowa adults who were above a healthy weight grew by about 36% between 1995 and 2009, compared with a national increase of 32%.
The 2016 County Health Rankings show that 28% of Henry County adults age 20 and over report no leisure-time physical activity.
What are we doing to promote active living?
We put on free community events that focus on families walking and playing games together. Find out more about our community events here.
We promote National Walk to School day at area elementary schools.
We have helped build a portion of Mt. Pleasant's Rec Trail and are looking at ways to enhance the rec trail system.
We partnered with the City of Winfield and Henry County Planning and Zoning to design a map of Winfield that lists all of the activity opportunities there, along with identifying two walking trails and two biking trails. This map is in a new kiosk located in the Winfield Activity Park.
Skatepark funds application
HHCC has funds that have been raised in the past to build a skatepark in Henry County and we are looking for an organization interested in completing this project. Please click here to view and download the application and details.
